Camping at Az. Agricola Tenuta La Casetta - a little gem east of Lake Garda

La Casetta Azienda Agricola - Winery & Restaurant

We followed the sun all the way to Lake Garda, but unfortunately, we were unable to secure a campsite right on the lakeshore itself. After some searching using the Pitchup website, we eventually booked a spot at La Casetta, a charming location about a 40-minute drive from both Peschiera del Garda and the well-known Gardaland theme park. La Casetta is a delightful, family-run Italian winery and restaurant nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. They take great pride in producing, vinifying, and bottling their own selection of red, white, and rosรฉ wines, alongside their very own olive oil, and we came away with a selection. Wine tasting is available by reservation, and the restaurant operates lunchtime service from 12pm to 2.30pm, with dinner available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Although we wished we had time to dine there, as everything is locally sourced and the pasta is made fresh onsite, we had promised the kids a long-awaited BBQ back at the vanโ€ฆ

The campsite itself is relatively small but radiates peace and quiet, positioned just to the right of the main estate. The pitches are large and equipped with its own water supply and electric hookup. The toilet facilities are modest but are well kept. While there is only one shower available, this did not prove to be any inconvenience during our stay. Furthermore, the site features a private swimming pool, which comes with an additional charge but is absolutely worth paying for! The overall atmosphere and quality of the experience made it feel much more like staying at a 5-star hotel than a traditional campsite!

Our original plan was to head down to the lake with the paddleboards, but as we were driving in, the kids had spotted the pool. Everyone was feeling a bit tired from the drive, so we decided to change plans. We quickly grabbed our swim gear and spent a relaxing afternoon by the pool, enjoying the sun and water. Later on, we wrapped up the day with a barbecue right at the van eating local sausage, salads, oil and burrata.

Quite a quiet day overall, but definitely one of our most memorable experiences thanks to the stunning setting.
